地鐵

地鐵是在城市中修建的快速、大運量、用電力牽引的軌道交通。列車在全封閉的線路上執行，位於中心城區的線路基本設在地下隧道內，中心城區以外的線路一般設在高架橋或地面上，英語為metro(underground railway、subway)。地鐵是涵蓋了城市地區各種地下與地上的路權專有、高密度、高運量的城市軌道交通系統（Metro），中國臺灣地鐵稱之為“捷運”（Rapid transit）。 除了地下鐵以外，也包括高架鐵路（Elevated railway）或路面上鋪設的鐵路。因此，地鐵是路權專有的、無平交，這也是地鐵區別於輕軌交通系統的根本性的標誌。世界上最早的（也是第一條）地鐵是英國倫敦的大都會地鐵，始建於1863年。
