　　一、英語小故事

　　The new year had almost arrived, and the Toy Kingdom planned to invite everyone to a grand ball. The day of the dance, the toys were all dancing and laughing, and the whole ballroom was extraordinarily lively. But off in one corner, receiving no attention from anyone, there was an old purple doll silently gazing at the dance floor, her eyes were blank and she looked lonely. Just then, a white polar bear in front of her saw this, walked over and asked the dependable old doll, “Doll, why don’t you go dance?” The dependable doll lowered her head sadly, saying in a small voice, “The [other] toys all say I’m too short, they’re not willing to dance with me.” Saying this, she began to cry. Polar Bear was furious when he heard this, and said: “How could they treat you this way? Don’t they understand solidarity? That’s just too much!” Little Bear pulled on the baby doll’s hand, and said: “Doll, don’t be sad. Come on, I’m asking you to dance with me.” The dependable doll heard these words, and a brilliant smile immediately lit up her face. She quickly wiped the tears off her face and said happily, “Wonderful! Wonderful!” On the dance floor, Doll and Bear danced and laughed, and passed a lovely evening together.

　　新年快到了，玩具王國決定舉行一場盛大的舞會，準備邀請全國的玩具都來參加。舞會那天，玩具們都不停地跳著、笑著，整個舞場熱鬧非凡。可是在一個角落裡，誰也沒有注意到，有一隻紫色的香草娃娃正一聲不吭地望著舞池，她的眼神呆呆的，顯得十分孤獨。這時，一隻小白熊正好從她面前經過，它看到了這一切，就走過去問香草娃娃：“娃娃，你為什麼不去跳舞呢?”香草娃娃難過地低下了頭，輕輕地說：“玩具們都嫌我個子小，不願意請我跳舞。”說完流下了眼淚。小白熊聽了很氣憤，說：“他們怎麼能這樣對待你呢?難道他們不懂得要團結友愛嗎!太過分了!”小白熊拉起香草娃娃的手，說，“娃娃，不要難過了。走，我請你跳舞。”香草娃娃聽了這話，臉上頓時露出了燦爛的笑容，她連忙擦掉臉上的淚水，高興地說：“太好了!太好了!”娃娃和小白熊在舞池裡又跳又笑，一起度過了一個愉快的夜晚。

　　I had been doing Tech Support for Hewlett-Packard's DeskJet division for about a month when I had a customer call with a problem I just couldn't solve. She could not print yellow. All the other colors would print fine, which truly baffled me because the only true colors are cyan, magenta, and yellow. I had the customer change ink cartridges，delete and reinstall the drivers. Nothing worked. I asked my coworkers for help; they offered no new ideas. After over two hours of troubleshooting, I was about to tell the customer to send the printer in to us for repair when she asked quietly, "Should I try printing on a piece of white paper instead of yellow paper?"

　　我在惠普公司印表機部做技術支援工作已經有一個月了，有一天我接到一位客戶的電話，她的問題我沒辦法解決。她的問題是：印表機不能打出來黃色，但是其它顏色都正常。這讓我覺得很納悶，因為三原色就是藍、紅、黃。我建議客戶更換墨盒、刪了驅動程式然後重新安裝，但是都沒有效果。我諮詢同事們，他們也不知道該怎麼辦。經過兩個多小時的交涉，我打算讓客戶把印表機寄給我們，這時候她平靜地說了一句：“我是不是應該把這張黃紙扔了換一張白紙再列印試試。”
