煙

煙是個多義詞，一是指煙霧的煙，二是指人們所抽的香菸的煙，內含有毒成分，三是一個姓。不是氣體，物理上算是粉塵顆粒物，是固體，因為重量很輕可以飄在空氣中，就形成了煙。 人們普遍認為菸草最早源於美洲。考古發現，人類尚處於原始社會時，菸草就進入到美洲居民的生活中了。那時，人們在採集食物時，無意識地摘下一片植物葉子放在嘴裡咀嚼，因其具有很強的刺激性，正好起到恢復體力和提神打勁的作用，於是便經常採來咀嚼，次數多了，便成為一種嗜好。考古學家認為，迄今發現人類使用菸草最早的證據是在墨西哥南部賈帕思州倍倫克的一座建於公元432年的神殿裡一幅浮雕。它是一張半浮雕畫，浮雕上畫著一個叼著長煙管菸袋的瑪雅人，在舉行祭祖典禮時，以管吹煙和吸菸的情景，頭部還用菸葉裹著。考古學家還在美國亞利桑那州北部印第安人居住過的洞穴中，發現了遺留的菸草和菸斗中吸剩的菸灰，據考證這些遺物的年代大約在公元650年左右。而有記載發現人類吸食菸草是在14世紀的薩爾瓦多。
