上帝（shàng dì，God），是一個漢語詞彙，意思是天之最尊者；天帝；君主；帝王。基督教傳教士借用中國原有語詞，對其所信奉之神God的譯稱，天主教譯作“天主”。語出《尚書·召誥》：“皇天上帝改厥元子茲大國殷之命。”人之所尊，莫過於帝，託之於天，故稱上帝。 唐李朝威《柳毅傳》“上帝以寡人有薄德於古今，遂寬其同氣之罪。”《西遊記》第五回：“只為妖猴欺上帝，致令眾聖降凡塵。”
