向（ xiàng ），漢字。指對著、朝著，也指目標、靠近，《史記》中說：“何故欲向漢？”此字還有偏袒、從前等意思。

向姓

向姓是中文的姓氏之一，向姓是中國最古老的姓氏，在百家姓中排第129位，按人口計算排名第99位（2007年資料）。炎帝生的二十四個兒子之一，起為向姓，在夏朝向垚在陝西建向國，以國名為氏，這是真正的向姓始祖。根據《呂氏春秋》載有：“宋向帶為太宰，桓族也。華元殺蕩澤、向帶等舍於睢上……”。可知向帶亦為桓公之後，綜合其他史料判斷，向子戌所處年代應在向帶之後 ，這就說明，向姓發源於陝西，並以國為姓，而“向父”為向父姓得姓始祖，無論如何，“向父”的姓祖發祥於今宋國。
