掃帚是在夏代由少康發明的，少康抓來幾隻野雞，拔下毛來製成了天下第一把掃帚，這也是雞毛撣子的由來。在掃地過程中，少康又發現雞毛掃帚太軟，掃不乾淨，同時也不耐磨，後來他將雞毛改成竹條、草等為原料，從此有了耐用的掃帚。 掃帚（The broom）是掃地除塵的工具，源於中國，多用竹枝紮成，比笤帚大。掃帚用的原材料有高梁穗、金絲草、竹梢、掃帚草等，耐用又好用，直到現在，掃帚仍在應用。 掃帚的拼音是（sào zhou）。
