擊劍（Fencing）是從古代劍術決鬥中發展起來的一項體育專案，它結合優雅的動作和靈活的戰術，要求運動員精神的高度集中和身體的良好協調性，體現出運動員良好的動作和敏捷的反應。 擊劍在遠古時期就已經出現了，在古代埃及、中國、希臘、羅馬、阿拉伯等國家十分盛行。1776 年，法國擊劍大師拉布瓦西埃發明了面罩，這一發明是擊劍運動一個重點裡程碑。1896年在雅典舉行的第1屆現代奧運會上就設有子花劍、佩劍的比賽。1900年在巴黎舉行的第2屆奧運會上增加了男子重劍比賽。1913年11月29日在法國巴黎成立了國際擊劍聯合會。1914年6月在巴黎通過了《擊劍競賽規則》，從而使擊劍運動競賽趨向公平、合理。
