代是一個漢字，讀音為dài，左右結構，部首為亻，總筆畫數為5，一般是指代替、代表，也可以指中間的，代理商。亦用作姓氏。

代姓

代姓，中國姓氏，為多民族姓氏，起源有二。代國，為周時諸侯國（故地在今河北蔚縣東南），戰國時為趙襄子所滅，子孫以國名為氏。又有北魏太祖時乙弗部有首領代題，其後有代氏。戰國時有趙人代舉、漢時有京兆尹代武、宋時代淵，宋史有傳、以及贊善大夫知蒙州的代象、明時有崖州人，歐寧縣丞代賢、以及山後人，西安衛指揮代升，皆為古代代姓名人，與戴姓不同。 後因在《第二次漢字簡化方案》中，將“戴”簡化為“代”，致使部分戴姓也改稱代姓，使二姓混為一談，隨《第二次漢字簡化方案》後廢止，這部分代姓也有人未改回戴姓，使戴姓成為代姓一大來源。
